Level Three
Traditionally the Master level was reserved for those who wanted to teach, which is why you’ll find many Reiki Masters referred to as Master-Teachers. However, there is a level somewhere between a Practitioner and Teacher which can be taught on request, known as Reiki Master Level IIIa.
The Master level works on the spiritual plane and some say it addresses karmic issues. Certainly most Reiki Masters I have met are definitely working on themselves in many ways to be better people, and those people have understood the true essence of Reiki.
Again, the attunement to Master level holds a magnifying glass up to one’s personal issues and encourages you to work through them. The IIIa Master level is, therefore, an important place in personal development whereas the IIIb or Master-Teacher level differs in that you are taught to pass attunements, initiating others into the use of Reiki, and begins your development into helping other to learn Reiki.
There is no definite system for teaching a Reiki master course. The attunements can be passed in a matter of minutes but the knowledge that goes alongside a dramatic change in the person must, in my opinion, reflect the enormity of responsibility being taken on. My course lasted 5 months and cost hundreds of pounds, which I was happy to pay because the course was tailored for me and was at my own pace. Reiki should be available to all and acceptance to a Master level course is determined through an interview. You receive a certificate as proof of attendance and level attained, at the end of the course.
